Meet Jamie Greenberg: Positivity is Your Superpower

My phone conversation with Jamie was nothing short of empowering- I felt as if I was sitting at her house drinking coffee at the dining room table. She is that relatable, and she wants her clients to feel the exact same way. An advocate for safer beauty, she found her path to where she is not by listening to her gut about who she is and constantly remembering that kind is a superpower. You can see more of her superpower here plus read her words of honest reflections below.

1. Can you share a little of your journey with us and who you are?

I actually got my start in television and film. When I started working retail, I found a new love for empowering women with makeup looks that fit their personalities! As an artist, I love to play around with different makeup brands, one of those being Beautycounter. After I opened the first Ulta store in LA, I moved to Bloomingdales. Various people would stop at my counter to chat and soon enough, I had clients through my natural interactions with them. I felt genuine connections with people and found a free-lance opportunity with Dior as a result. Funny enough, I was even the makeup artist for Nanny 911! I love pop culture and actors and actresses so once my first celebrity client fell into my lap, this opened up a lot of doors for me. I then started assisting other makeup artists. It was so nerve wracking in the beginning because you get a call and you’re like “oh my gosh, I’ve known them my whole life!” I was trying to make the best of working in retail before my journey began as a makeup artist- I was a very persistent hard worker who didn’t complain- I did the grunt work and had a positive attitude. People want to work with people who have positive attitudes. Kind of like a superpower if you can hone it in. You have to make someone look pretty on the outside but also on the inside.

2. Tell us about the mission of your brand- how does it empower women?

My brand is really about just making every woman realize their potential and realize that they can do anything they want to do. I came from nothing special and just worked really hard! The first thing women need to do is decide what they really want to do in life. I’ve lived a life- I’ve done the work- I want everyone to know to just believe in yourselves. You do have to work on it- whatever the work is, you have to put it in. Based on my own life experiences, I believe in hard work and wellness. It doesn’t just come to you!

3. What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to press through as a female entrepreneur? What are the steps you had to take to overcome it?

I feel more like an underdog in my profession- this was something harder to overcome for me. I came to LA not knowing a soul- the old fashioned way before social media existed. At first, I tried to fit the mold of the makeup artist in LA, but my husband told me “just be yourself” and now I have attracted to me who I am as my clientele- which is again- part of your superpower. Being who you are will attract who you are supposed to be around. It takes work to get to know who you are- put in the work! You can’t conform to be liked- you will attract the wrong people. The right people will come to you when you own who you are!

4. What sets your brand apart from others?

I feel like I am really about working hard to achieve greatness- I want to be your beauty best friend and really listen to what you have to say. I’m just a normal brand. So many brands these days are so fancy- I want girls to feel like they can sit at my table and drink coffee with me. The more I’ve grown up, the more I realize life is not Instagram. Everyone in every job is just trying to figure their shit out and that’s okay! I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to change and you don’t need to conform- YOU are the best fit!

5. How do you collaborate with others working towards a better world?

I am really about supporting brands that are changing the way things go down. I like to do testimonials to my audience of people that pay attention. I am involved in Thrive cosmetics because they give back to women who are undergoing cancer treatment or have overcome cancer. I try to support all the women I can that are changing the world- you have to tell everyone about the great changes they are making happen. Other brands I support include Beautycounter, Honest Beauty, and CAUSEmetics plus Philanthropy!. I love supporting brands that give back.

6. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs in the beginning stages of launching their brand or business?

Patience and persistence. Tackle every problem with a solution. Know that some things will fail, others will succeed. It’s all going to work out the way it’s supposed to. Enjoy it even if it’s scary and anxiety filled. Not to mention, just START. Start what you want to do! What are you waiting for? Don’t let the fear paralyze you!
