Meet Lady Katherine: Fairy Princess
Lady Katherine is a dream- she overcame many challenges to arrive at the place she is now! A babe in every way- give her a listen and be inspired by her story!
1. Can you share a little of your journey with us and who you are?
My name is Heather Donaldson and I am a singer/songwriter with a project called Lady Katherine. While living in Los Angeles, I created a music project called Lady Katherine. I wanted the music to be beautiful and I invented a character (Lady Katherine) that would be fun to dress up like a fairy princess. Lady Katherine is feminine, classic, delicate, royal, fun, and dresses almost exclusively in sustainable fashion. I now live in Sacramento and Northern California is my home. My recent project has been to create Lady Katherine portraits in National Parks dressed in sustainable fashion (you can visit the portraits on the Lady Katherine website www.ladykatherinemusic.com). I am passionate about informing the public to purchase from sustainable vendors, reduce consumption, and recycle.
2. Tell us about the mission of your brand- how does it empower women?
Lady Katherine strives to inspire sustainable practices, health and creativity. The embodiment of Lady Katherine is to create powerful art that connects us with this planet and each other. I want women to feel connected to their creative side, to be health conscious in order to be the best version of themselves, and to create a better world for all living creatures.
3. What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to press through as a female entrepreneur? What are the steps you had to take to overcome it?
After I recorded the first Lady Katherine EP, my band broke up. I was devastated. It took me a year to regroup and figure out what to do next. When I did, I was a better artist for having gone through a creative challenge. There have been many times when something I created doesn’t get the attention that I think it deserves and I have learned not to take it personally and to continue to create. You have to love the journey and not get hung up on your own expectations.
4. What sets your brand apart from others?
My goal is to help people become the best version of themselves so that they can inspire others. I think it’s important to think about how you impact the world and use your voice to make things better.
5. How do you collaborate with others working towards a better world?
I currently collaborate with Goodwill of Sacramento/Nevada on their seasonal Style With A Purpose event. We provide free styling and curated items for thrifters. We have also done several news segments to promote eco-friendly fashion.
6. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs in the beginning stages of launching their brand or business?
Figure out what you want to say/do then do it! There is no right or wrong answer. Your journey will evolve as it’s happening but you will never go anywhere if you are afraid to begin. Have fun!!
